Deer District will transform into Cheer District, illuminated by the We Energies Foundation, this month for the fifth consecutive year. The City of Milwaukee’s Christmas Tree will also be set up at Deer District for the second year beginning Nov. 17.
“The We Energies Foundation is committed to enhancing the well-being of the communities we serve. We hope illuminating the Cheer District brings a little extra joy to our friends and neighbors during this holiday season,” said Beth Straka, President of the We Energies Foundation. “We are delighted to carry on this special tradition.”

Dynamic Events by David Caruso, designer of the City of Milwaukee Christmas Tree, will produce the tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 17 with Mayor Cavalier Johnson to officially mark the transformation of Deer District into Cheer District, illuminated by the We Energies Foundation, for the holiday season. The City of Milwaukee Christmas Tree is the longest running official tree in the United States other than New York City. This year marks the 110th year of the city’s tree.
To celebrate the tree lighting on Nov. 17, First Stage Children’s Theatre, Skylight Music Theatre, Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Milwaukee Repertory Theater and Black Arts MKE will perform starting at 5 p.m. These performances will be presented by the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF). The tree lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. with Mayor Cavalier Johnson and special guest appearances by Bango, DJ Quadi, Santa Claus, and Rudolph, Vixen and Holly of Reindeer Games.
Free parking will be available to attendees at the Highland Structure located at 1030 N. 6th St. and 5th Street Parking Structure located at 1215 N. 5th St. For more information on all upcoming events, visit deerdistrict.com.

Fireworks on New Year’s Eve
Ring in the New Year with Fireworks!
Cheer District, illuminated by the We Energies Foundation, will display fireworks on New Year’s Eve at 8:30 p.m. for the community. The fireworks will be lit from Deer District’s flat lot, off the corner of W. State St. and N. 6th St.
The fireworks will begin around 8:30 p.m., following the 6 p.m. show of the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters at Fiserv Forum. Tickets for the two Harlem Globetrotters shows on Dec. 31 (1 p.m. and 6 p.m.) are available at www.FiservForum.com.
The fireworks are free to attend. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets.
New Year’s Eve specials will be available throughout the evening at select Deer District tenant establishments.

110th Annual City of Milwaukee Christmas Tree Lighting
Milwaukee Makers Market: Nov. 18
The Milwaukee Makers Market returns to The Beer Garden in Deer District on Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in celebration of the holiday season.
Twenty Makers are secured for the market, and each Maker offers a variety of seasonal selections including knitwear, pastries, artwork and jewelry. This market is free and open to the public, and a food truck will be onsite to purchase food and beverages.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to hold the Milwaukee Makers Market in Deer District again for an outdoor holiday pop-up market,” said Ryan Laessig, creator of Milwaukee Makers Market. “We’re exposing more of our wonderful small businesses, and that’s what we’re striving for in the end.”
